Another addition for 2004 is our Centre for Leadership and Service Corps

The Centre for Leadership (CL) prepares young professionals or those with minimal experience for positions of leadership in industry, financial services or public service and enables them to play a positive part in the development of their own community and society.

The emphasis of this course is on practical training and takes place in a company or institution where the young professional receives direct experience.

The trainers of this programme do, themselves, hold senior positions in business or social service and have a wealth of experience.

The Centre has provided opportunities for young people, particularly from Central Europe can join well known, leading UK companies to learn about Commercial leadership, business leadership, personnel management, motivation, generating ideas and strategies etc. Leadership at all levels is crucial to the development and improvement of Societies. The Centre will work to develop leadership skills among young people and inspire a sense of what can be achieved by an individual. The moto of the Centre is that, “one man can make a difference and every man should try”.

Public service is a high calling and trained leaders are essential to the development of vibrant communities. Successful leaders need to learn to work with others, to listen, to learn and to compromise. The Centre’s programmes develop these skills. SERVICE CORPS

The Service Corps was established to promote service by individuals to their fellow man. This service will take the form of working in the fields of nursing, care or hospitality. This programme is aimed at people who aspire to improve and enhance the lives of those they are helping.

The Corps is based on the principles of the Americorps in the United States. Young people will develop a sense of duty and will reinforce the benefits integrity, compassion and a commitment to justice. The Corps represents a challenge to young people and the moto is, “A call to serve your fellow man”. It is an opportunity to see and meet the needs of others. The Corps brokers and promotes the opportunities, largely in Bournmouth but it can be nationwide.

INTRODUCTION TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Course objectives:

This course aims to familiarise the student with the basic concepts and processes of local government in the UK . This course is a good introduction for any student with an interest in politics or any social science and who may wish to work in this field
